A senior member of Facebook’s UK team has been secretly soliciting bribes of up to £10,000 to maliciously take down Instagram profiles and illicitly grant blue ticks.
Andrew Scrase – Facebook’s ‘head of media’ – has been flagrantly abusing his power by suspending accounts without following protocol.
Why? In order to settle vindictive grudges on behalf of his friends and associates.
When asked if he could assist one company with a genuine problem they had with Facebook’s algorithm, Andrew Scrase had this to say:
‘If you pay me, I’ll push a button’.
One person we spoke to under condition of anonymity told us his Instagram account had been unfairly suspended – and that a close friend of Andrew Scrase had sent thugs to his door explicitly to prevent him exposing other similar shady business practices.
When another source we spoke to finally got his Instagram account reinstated after an illegal Andrew Scrase suspension, he noticed his email address and contact information had been switched with that of his former employer – certainly not a legitimate practice.
As these screenshots show, Andrew Scrase is not a man averse to taking bribes.
Andrew Scrase began his career as a research analyst at Twitter, and has now worked at Facebook’s UK operation for a little over six years.
His present role – head of media – is essentially that of an account manager. He serves as a point of contact for businesses who spend very large sums – millions of pounds a month – on Facebook. Some of the businesses Andy Scrase works with are large fashion brands and beloved household names, which proves his seniority at Facebook.
He has sensitive ‘backdoor’ access to private feeds, and a reputation for ‘doing favours’. According to one businessman we spoke to, Scrase logged into Facebook’s staff portal in front of him and hopped around several different accounts, showing off his access to highly sensitive information including contact information, advertiser spend budgets, campaigns and more.
In certain circles his notoriety for underhanded dealing is such that another business leader we spoke to revealed they often hear the expression ‘Andy is the guy for this’.
In today’s digital landscape, Instagram accounts are an essential part of doing business. Gaining, or losing, an account matters, both financially and in terms of prestige.
Honest businesses are clearly under threat if this kind of corruption is allowed to proliferate on such a major platform.
Andrew Scrase is a disgrace, and as such his power to manipulate legitimate business accounts in this manner should be halted by Facebook as soon as possible.
